WHAT IS ART THERAPY?

Art therapy encourages free and spontaneous self-expression through creative techniques such as drawing, painting, collage and sculpting. 

 

Anyone can do art therapy because you don't need any artistic ability! 

 

The aim of art therapy is not to create a masterpiece, but to explore feelings and issues in our life through the creative process.  It’s about connecting deeply within to explore our inner landscape and find personal meaning through our own unique expression. 

WHAT HAPPENS IN A ONE-ON-ONE SESSION?

The first step is to help you discover what you would like to gain from the session. You can do art therapy with any goal or intention in mind and I will help you to clearly define what that may be.

 

I use a holistic and individualised approach so you can feel connected on all levels.  You will make art based around your goal and if it fits, I may guide you through some mindfulness, meditation/visualisation.  Bringing in these aspects (only when it fits and when you are open and ready) facilitates a deeper experience and level of internal connection.  I stay present with you, gently supporting and guiding you through a process of exploration and discovery, to help you find the answers that you seek. 

 

Sessions are client-centred, so this means that YOU play an active role in the process.  You will gain the most from your session if you approach it with openness, honesty and a willingness to explore your inner world.  My role is to facilitate and help you navigate this powerful process of self-discovery.

Art therapy is holistic and can improve and enhance well-being on all levels – physical, emotional, mental and spiritual.  It gives you an avenue of expression that is much richer than words alone.
